Dodgeball Rules
2010

1.
The Team Captain will be the only one allowed to talk to the referees.
The captain should be identified as captain by an armband or other form of
identification. (Please Supply Your Own).
2.
The Team Captain is responsible for controlling their team.
3.
Don’t argue every call.
Boundaries:
1.
During play, all players must remain in boundary lines.
2.
Players may only pass out of bounds on their side of the court to
retrieve stray balls.
3.
When retrieving a ball, the player must immediately reenter the playing
field or be declared out.
4.
A player shall not:
a.
Leave the playing field to avoid being hit by a ball.
b.
Have any part of their body cross the center-line and contact ground on
their opponent’s side of the court.
5.
If a boundary penalty occurs, the player will be declared out.
6.
Exceptions: During the opening rush many players cross the center-line.
Officials should refrain from calling players out at this time unless a definite
advantage was gained by the action.
The Game:
1.
An out is scored by:
a.
Hitting an opposing player with a live thrown ball below the shoulders.
Note: If a player ducks, and this clearly is the cause for the player being hit
above the shoulders, the player is out and the throw is legal.
b.
Catching a live ball thrown by your opponent.
c.
Causing an opponent to drop a live ball as a result of another thrown
live ball. (Usually occurs when a ball is being used to block a thrown ball)
d.
An opposing player steps out of bounds.
2.
A player may block a thrown ball with a ball being held, provided the
held ball is not dropped as a result of the contact with the thrown ball.
Note: A ball deflecting off a held ball and striking the holder is no longer a
live ball.
Timing:
1.
A seven-minute time limit is set for each game.
a.
If an equal number of players remain after regulation play, a
three-minute sudden death overtime period will be played.
b.
Each overtime period will begin with the balls on the center line just
like the beginning of the game.
c.
The team with the most players at the end will be declared the winner.
2.
If the ball is thrown before the whistle it remains live until it hits an
opponent or ground.
Playing
the Game:
1.
Teams will be made up of six players.
2.
Prior to beginning the game, six dodge balls are placed on the
centerline.
3.
Players then take a position behind that end line.
4.
Following the opening whistle, players rush to the centerline and secure
a ball.
5.
Players must keep the balls active during play.
6.
The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared
the winner. If neither team has been eliminated by the end of regulation play,
the team with the greater number of remaining players will be declared the
winner.
