Past MYC Activities
Awareness Events:
· 4-D Kickoff (Drunk, Drugged and Distracted Driving Awareness) -
educates middle and high school students about the dangers of distracted
driving. This is an annual event organized by the Mayor’s Youth Council.
· Red Ribbon Week – hands out red ribbons for drug-free awareness
· Driver’s Edge - helps organize and run this 3-day program, which
teaches high school students how to handle a car that is out of control,
provides students with car care tips, and provides education on drinking and
driving.
· Town Hall Meeting – provides
alcohol awareness for community members. MYC members participate in the panel
and volunteer to help with the meeting.
· SET Free Coalition (South East
Tobacco Free Coalition) – supports the coalition, which educates the community
about the dangers of tobacco use.
· State Park Alcohol Awareness
Campaign – continues to support with radio and television PSA’s.
· Smart Drivers Just Drive Campaign
– helped community members organize and disseminate information and recorded
radio PSA’s for a national distracted driving campaign.
